About this course
Level 4 is the point at which the job changes character. You are no longer primarily delivering care; you are answerable for whether other people deliver it properly, and you find out about most of it from records rather than by being there.
That creates the central problem of the role: the written record becomes your main instrument, and a written record can be complete, tidy, on time and still describe care that did not happen the way it says. This course is about supervision that surfaces the truth, audit that finds real problems, and managing performance without either avoiding it or reaching for a disciplinary process too early.
What you will be able to do
- Run supervision that surfaces problems rather than confirming compliance
- Design an audit that tests care rather than paperwork
- Address underperformance early and proportionately
- Recognise the warning signs of a service drifting

Assessment and certificate
Knowledge check after each module and a final assessment at 80 per cent, with unlimited attempts.
A free digital certificate with a verification code, showing the CPD hours completed. This is continuing professional development, not a regulated qualification. It is not the Ofqual regulated Diploma of the same level, and it does not carry credits towards one. Anyone telling you an online course of this kind is a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care is describing something else entirely.
Questions
What is the difference between supervision and a performance meeting?
Supervision is regular, developmental and belongs to the member of staff: their caseload, their development, their concerns. A performance meeting is about a specific shortfall and belongs to you. Conflating them is why staff arrive at supervision defensive, and defensive people do not tell you what is going wrong.
Our audits are always green. Is that good?
It is a warning. Audits that never find anything are usually testing whether paperwork exists rather than whether care happened. An audit that never produces an action is not evidence of a good service, it is evidence of an audit that cannot see.
