Accessibility statement

Our commitment

This site is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 at level AA. A significant proportion of our learners have a disability, use a screen reader, are dyslexic, or are reading in a second language, and a training site that excludes them is failing at its only job.

What we have done

• Every page works without JavaScript. The full course material renders server side.
• Every module is published as a written conversation and as a recording script, so it can be read, printed, or filmed by anyone who wants to make a spoken version.
• Light and dark themes, both contrast checked, with your system preference respected by default.
• Keyboard navigation throughout, a skip link, visible focus states, and semantic headings in order.
• Text resizes to 200 per cent without loss of content, and the layout reflows to narrow screens without horizontal scrolling.
• No motion that plays automatically, and no flashing content.
• Plain UK English, short sentences, and no jargon without an explanation on first use.

What we know is not right yet

• There is no recorded audio yet. An earlier build read the material aloud with the browser's own speech engine and the voice quality was poor enough to devalue the material, so it was removed rather than shipped. Human recorded audio of these scripts is the next thing we intend to produce.
• We have not yet published easy read versions of the courses. This matters most for the social care courses and it is the next accessibility work we intend to do.
• Some source documents we link to are third party PDFs whose accessibility we do not control.
