About this course
Level 2 is the working care worker: the person delivering the care, keeping the records, and noticing first when something changes. The knowledge that matters at this level is not theory. It is knowing what your duty of care actually obliges you to do, what person centred means when the person wants something risky, and where the line sits between kindness and a boundary you must not cross.
This course teaches those four things properly: duty of care and its limits, person centred practice, communication when the usual methods do not work, and professional boundaries. It is written for somebody who will read it after a shift, not for an assessor.
What you will be able to do
- Explain your duty of care and what it does and does not require
- Apply person centred practice when preferences carry risk
- Adapt communication when speech, hearing or understanding is impaired
- Recognise and hold a professional boundary without being cold
Modules
Assessment and certificate
Knowledge check after each module and a final assessment at 80 per cent, with unlimited attempts.
A free digital certificate with a verification code, showing the CPD hours completed. This is continuing professional development, not a regulated qualification. It is not the Ofqual regulated Diploma of the same level, and it does not carry credits towards one. Anyone telling you an online course of this kind is a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care is describing something else entirely.
Questions
Is this the same as a Level 2 Diploma?
No. What it gives you is the underpinning knowledge, free, with a verifiable certificate showing the CPD hours. Employers value that; they simply value it as CPD rather than as a qualification, and so should you.
Someone I support wants to do something that is bad for them. What is my duty?
If they have capacity, your duty of care is not a power to overrule them. It requires you to make sure they understand the risk, to reduce it where you can, to record the conversation, and to raise it with your manager. It does not authorise you to stop a capacitated adult making a decision you disagree with.
