About this course
The OSCE is the second part of the NMC Test of Competence, taken in the UK at an approved test centre. Every year it is failed by nurses with a decade or more of experience, and almost never because of clinical knowledge.
The failures cluster in five places: not verbalising actions, taking consent the way another system takes it, unstructured escalation, documentation that would be fine elsewhere, and infection control narration. This course is built around exactly those five.
We are honest about the limit of a written course. Nobody passes an OSCE by reading. What a course can do is remove every surprise, so that when you get to the practical rehearsal you are practising performance rather than discovering rules. That is where the marks are.
What you will be able to do
- Describe the structure of the Test of Competence and what each station assesses
- Verbalise assessment, consent and infection control to the standard the exam requires
- Conduct an ABCDE assessment, calculate NEWS2, and escalate using SBAR with a clear ask
- Apply UK consent and capacity law correctly, including refusing to accept family consent
- Document to UK standards including allergy status and controlled drugs

Assessment and certificate
A knowledge check after each module and a final assessment at 80 per cent, with unlimited attempts. This assesses knowledge only and is not a substitute for practical, observed rehearsal.
A free digital certificate showing 2.5 CPD hours with a verification code. It evidences preparation, not competence: only the NMC test centre can assess the OSCE.
Questions
Can I pass the OSCE using an online course?
No, and be wary of anyone who says otherwise. The OSCE is a practical examination. What a course does is remove the surprises, so your practical rehearsal is spent on performance rather than on discovering UK specific rules. Book supervised, timed, spoken practice as well.
Why do experienced nurses fail?
Overwhelmingly because they do not verbalise. In most systems a competent nurse acts and narrating every step would look inexperienced. In the OSCE, if you did not say it, you did not do it.
Is this course affiliated with an NMC test centre?
No. We are independent, we are not an approved test centre, and we have no relationship with any. Book your test directly through the NMC process.
What is a critical fail?
An error that fails a station regardless of how well the rest went, because it would harm a patient. Identity checking, hand hygiene at critical moments, medication errors, failing to escalate deterioration, dignity and confidentiality breaches, and unsafe moving and handling.
I have already failed. Is that the end?
No. Resits are permitted within the NMC's rules and many nurses now working in the UK failed a station first time. A failed station is information about a system you had not yet learned, not about whether you are a nurse.
